2 Out Of 3 Malaco Quartets Earn Stellar Nominations

Jackson, MS. January 9, 2007-

After a year-long push to bring traditional gospel quartets back into the Gospel Mainstream with their ‘Yes! Quartet!’ campaign, the response is rewarding: two 2008 Stellar Award nominations.

Slim & The Supreme Angels and The Pilgrim Jubilees are both nominated in the Quartet of the Year category for The Judgement and Jesus Got Me Off, respectively. Both projects are on the Malaco Records label and comprise two of the three new releases of the ‘Yes! Quartet’ Campaign. The third release was Spencer Taylor & The Highway Qc’s, Hasn’t Always Been Easy which also was received with critical acclaim.

The Stellar Awards will be held on January 12, 2008 at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, TN. Hosts for this prestigious event are CeCe Winans, Kirk Franklin and Byron Cage.

Slim and the Supreme Angels have recorded fifteen albums since their beginning, in 1969. Though former sharecropper Howard Hunt (a.k.a. Slim) passed away in March of this year, the group continues to perform, carrying on the mission set forth by Hunt.

The Pilgrim Jubilees, affectionately called "The Jubes," has been traveling for over half a century singing gospel quartet music. They also have numerous recordings, on labels such as: Peacock, Savoy, and Malaco Records.

Malaco Records, committed to promoting gospel quartet music through its "Yes! Quartet" promotion, released seven CDs in 2007, three of which are new releases—two, Stellar nominees.
